Silvia Russel

Silvia Russel (1969, Nijmegen, the Netherlands) lives and works in Amsterdam.
Russels’ drawings are inspired by stories that locals in for example New York, Berlin and Amsterdam tell about their lives in different neighbourhoods. Russel discusses themes such as gentrification or the influence of the environment on personal lives with inhabitants. These stories become the raw materiaal for her artwork, which ranges from small diary sketches to larger-than- life size murals and site specific installations for certain architectural locales. Russel has had numerous solo- and group shows in venues like Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven and Museum Van Bommel Van Dam, Venlo, all in the Netherlands. In New York she showed at LMAKprojects, Artists Space, Suite 106 and Gallery MC, and at Cell Project Space in London. Her work has been reviewed in major Dutch newspapers and art magazines. Russel is represented by LMAKprojects in New York. www.silviarussel.com
