born in Dornreichenbach, 1965-69 studied theatre at the Theatrehochschoule in Leipzig, 1969-70 stagehand in Leipzig and freelance dramaturge at the Theater Altenburg and the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. 1971-73 assistant for German Theatre History at the Theaterhochschule “Hans Otto” in Leipzig, 1973-75 research assistant and “Sekretär für Schauspiel und Puppentheater” at the “Verband der Theaterschaffenden der DDR”, 1975-77 guest lecturer for Theatre History at the Staatlichen Schauspielschule Berlin, 1973-81 production dramaturge at the Staatstheater Dresden, the Berliner Ensemble, the Landestheater Halle, 1989-91 head dramaturge of the Mecklenburgischen Staatstheaters Schwerin, 1991-94 head dramaturg of the Städtischen Bühnen Nürnberg. Since 1994 freelance theatre dramaturge, author, librettist at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the Staatsoper Berlin and the Staatsschauspiel Stuttgart. Since 1995 teaching post for theory and praxis of directing and dramaturgy. Mentoring director at the HfS “Ernst Busch”, since winter semester 2005/06 Professor of Acting Theory and Dramaturgy.
