The artists Andrea Chudak (soprano) and Lidiya Naumova (guitar) will present Franz Schubert’s “Winterreise op. 89″ in an unusual orchestration. This song cycle comprises 24 songs, which Schubert composed in the autumn of 1827, a year before his death. The concert is part of the scenography project “Fremd bin ich eingezogen, fremd zieh ich wieder aus”. Lecturer Claudia Rohner embarks with her students on a journey towards Elfriede Jelinek’s „Winterreise“. Based on Franz Schubert’s song cycle, Jelinek’s journey leads her from the current state of our world back to individual events in her own biography. Feeling alienated by the world and her own life, she writes in a polyphonic stream of associations about loss, transience, alienation and loneliness. The result is a very personal piece of work, the starting point for the students exploration of “alienation”.
