Exhibition during the Open Day at the Berlin Philharmonic
In a seminar, students from various disciplines developed concepts as part of a collaborative project between the Philharmonie Berlin and the master’s program Stage Design_Scenic Space at TU Berlin. The aim was to make the architecture, acoustic space, and democratic idea of the Philharmonie Berlin accessible to all people in an inclusive and multisensory way. The goal was to conceive and prototype a tactile and sound-based guided tour that makes space, materiality, and acoustics directly perceptible.
The Philharmonie Berlin, designed by Hans Scharoun, is considered an icon of modern concert architecture. Its “vineyard” principle translates a democratic spatial idea into built form: the audience surrounds the orchestra, hierarchies are spatially dissolved, and a sense of community emerges through proximity. Scharoun’s architecture is shaped by movement, spatial layering, closeness, and resonance.
As part of the sustainability strategy of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, the building is to be opened up more extensively to blind and visually impaired people, as the architectural quality of the space has so far been experienced largely through vision.
The seminar took place in close cooperation with the Berlin Philharmonic and the German Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBSV). It included the development and construction of prototypes, as well as the design of a public presentation of the project results at the 2026 Open Day at the Philharmonie Berlin
