Johanna Pfau

Stage and Costume Designer

Johanna Pfau was born in Dahme /Brandenburg.
She studied stage design at the HdK Berlin in the class of Achim Freyer. Afterwards she worked several times with Thomas Ostermeier and belonged to the initial team of the barrack of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. With the playwright David Gieselmann she developed works in the independent scene in Berlin, but at the same time began to design stages and costumes at the Staatstheater. Since then she has worked as a set and costume designer at various opera and theatre stages in the German-speaking world: in Basel and Cologne with Karin Beier, several years at the Thalia Theater Hamburg with Andreas Kriegenburg, also at the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, where she also worked with Stefan Bachmann, Jorinde Dröse, Alize Zandwijk, Alexander Riemenschneider and Stephan Kimmig, with whom she also collaborated in Frankfurt, Zurich and Stuttgart and for the Salzburg Festival. She has also equipped operas for John Fulljames at the Theater Bremen, and works there and in Hanover, Chemnitz and Schwerin with Nina Mattenklotz time and again.
