Malte Knipping studied Theatre Studies and Art History at the FU Berlin and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2012. His scientific interest was particularly in the aesthetics of the performative and the politics of theatre as well as modern architecture in general.
He gained his first practical experience in 2007 during a stage design internship at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. During his studies, Malte realised his first stage design for a scenic reading at the 100-degree-festival in Berlin. His studies were followed in 2015 and 2017 by his own independent productions, which were realised with the debut grant of the City of Munich. Here, as with his first animated short film from 2018, his spatial image ideas formed the thematic starting point for his own productions. Above all, the exploration of community and sovereign possibilities of interaction in and with narrative space were the most recent inspiration for his ideas.
