born in 1971, she studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts at Mainz University and Stage Design at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Since 2003, Steffi Wurster works as a freelance set designer inter alia at Deutsches Theater Berlin, Residenztheater München, Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Nationaltheater Weimar, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Theater Freiburg and The Young Vic Theatre London. Beside her work as a stage designer she develops interdisciplinary projects and video works, in which she questions the constructedness of perception and deals with the visualisation of spatial processes. From 2009 to 2013 she worked on a filmic long-term study observing the remodeling of the Sochi bay area for the 2014 Winter Olympics and the impact of this mega-event on the landscape and its inhabitants. The resulting film revolves around issues related to the production of space and spatial aspects of identity construction.
