Verena Hemmerlein

Stage and Costume Designer

Verena Hemmerlein, born in Munich in 1979, studied stage and costume design in Karl Kneidl’s class at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and graduated as a master student.
She assisted stage designers at the Stuttgart State Opera, the RuhrTriennale, the Musiktheater im Revier and the Opera National du Rhin Strasbourg, and was production manager of sets for Opera Ireland.
Since 2003 she has been designing sets and costumes for musical theater, drama and dance and in 2007 she received the Cultural Sponsorship Award of the City of Würzburg.
She has created sets for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Compania Nacional de Danza at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Staatstheater Nürnberg, Thüringer Staatsballett, Tulsa Ballet Theater, USA, Gwangju City Ballet in South Korea, Musiktheater im Revier, Mainfrankentheater Würzburg, theaters Augsburg, Kaiserslautern, Erfurt and Baden near Vienna, the ATZE Musiktheater Berlin and the Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich, among others.
She has worked with Rosamund Gilmore, Andreas Baesler and Hanfried Schüttler and the choreographers Terence Kohler, Douglas Lee, Can Arslan, Young Soon Hue and Anna Vita, among others.
She has a longstanding collaboration with the choreographer Goyo Montero, as well as with Silvana Schröder at the Thüringer Staatsballett and with the choreographer James Sutherland.
