Colourful! Material Illusion.
For its 20th anniversary, the Bauhaus Festival brings the colourful nature of things into surprising focus. Put in the spotlight and set in motion as players on a stage, they find complete expression in front of us: architecture becomes audible, material becomes dance, walls become permeable, junk becomes music and people, material. In ‘play-spaces’ and productions the annual theme of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, ‘Substance’, is realised from a fresh perspective. The Bauhaus Festival thus forms a Gesamtkunstwerk from two evenings of contemporary interpretations of artistry, theatre, music, installation and performance.
In interdisciplinary teams, under the guidance of the lecturers Claudia Rohner and Franziska Ritter, our students have developed and realized eight scenographic projects for this festival. Entirely in the spirit of Oskar Schlemmer, the performance series ‘Substantia – das Licht greifen’ (Substantia – grasp the light) enables the students to experiment with the material and to create illusions in the space between humankind and material. The productions came about in collaboration with the Initiative Neuer Zirkus e.V., the postgraduate course Bühnenbild_Szenischer Raum at the Technical University of Berlin and the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin (HZT).
