La Bohéme

In a realization competition in cooperation with the Landesbühnen Sachsen, the students designed the stage and costumes for Puccini’s opera “La Bohéme” under the supervision of Prof. Kerstin Laube and in collaboration with director Horst Kupich. Depending on the order situation, the penniless poet Rodolfo and his three shrewd artist friends sometimes live in extreme need, but then again in abundance and fall into a wasteful mood. When their neighbour Mimì drops by one day, Rodolfo falls in love with the fragile young woman at first sight. However, the bon vivants are soon caught up in the harsh reality of Mimì’s illness. In a loose sequence of scenes, Puccini and his librettists not only depict a love story that ends tragically, but also portray the subculture of the bohemians in 19th century Paris.
